Addie J. Butler, Ed.D., Elected to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network Board of Trustees3/5/2010
ALLENTOWN, PA – The Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) recently elected Addie J. Butler, Ed.D., to a three-year term on the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network Board of Trustees. Good Shepherd is affiliated with the ELCA, and the Synod elects two-thirds of the trustees to the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network Board.
Butler has more than two decades of administrative experience in the realm of higher education. Retiring in 2007, Dr. Butler last served as Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs for the Community College of Philadelphia.
Dr. Butler earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education at Howard University, her master’s degree in biomechanics at Pennsylvania State University and her doctorate in education at Teachers’ College, Columbia University. In addition, she has been awarded three honorary doctorate degrees: a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Muhlenberg College, a Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from Susquehanna University and a second Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from Wagner College.
Dr. Butler served the Lutheran Church in numerous capacities over the years. She served as vice president of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the ELCA from 1987 to 1995. In September 1995, Dr. Butler was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, and was elected Chair of the Board in April 2004. In August 1997, Dr. Butler was elected vice president of the ELCA, the highest position a layperson may hold in the national church organization, and she held the position until October 2003.
