For individuals with Cardiopulmonary and other complex medical needs, the risk of ventilator- associated pneumonia (VAP) is a very real concern. Lung infections associated with mechanically ventilated patients are serious, and can be life-threatening.
Good Shepherd usesTruven Health Analytics to provide objective data on the development of ventilator-associated pneumonia at the Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital. Good Shepherd data is compared to 66 similar long-term acute care (LTAC) facilities nationally.
Patients in the Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital have not contracted a single ventilator-associated pneumonia from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. Eighty-nine cases of Infectious Disease confirmed ventilator-associated pneumonia were reported from the other health care organizations during the same reporting period.
