-
Occupational Therapy: Children work with occupational therapists to regain function and independence in performing everyday activities, such as dressing, feeding and writing.

-
Speech Therapy: Children learn or relearn to communicate effectively by improving oral motor function and articulation.
-
Respiratory Therapy: Certified respiratory therapists provide respiratory services and assistance with chest physical therapy and the use of respiratory equipment, such as ventilators, oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP and chest percussive devices.
-
Care Management: A patient care manager meets with each child and family upon admission and throughout the hospital stay to help you understand the treatment and goals. The care manager also works with insurance companies to ensure funding of care and ensure that available services are used fully.
-
Education: During the hospital stay, your child's education is provided by teachers from Bethlehem Area School District.
-
Psychologist: Changes in functional status, independence, self-esteem, social roles, personal relationships and body image can impact children following an injury or illness. Psychologists provide neuropsychology and psychology services to children and families to help you navigate through these issues. Neurocognitive status monitoring and neuropsychological evaluation are also offered.
- Dietitian: The nutritional status of each child is assessed and dietitians offer customized meals and nutrition education.
Families are an important part of the care team:
You play an important role in all steps of your child's recovery. That's why visits and overnight stays by family members are encouraged at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Unit. Patients and family members are placed in the center of the care plan, with the goal of returning your child to home, school and the community. We make every effort to accommodate cultural and spiritual needs.
