More than 1.4 million Americans suffer a traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that at least 5.3 million Americans currently have a long-term need for help in performing activities of daily living following a traumatic brain injury.

If you or a loved one has had a traumatic brain injury and are seeking to regain your functional independence, Good Shepherd’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program can help.

Levels of care:

• If you are stable and ready to leave an acute-care hospital, but are not well enough to go home or to a rehabilitation hospital, our long-term acute care hospital may be appropriate for you.
• Inpatient brain injury rehabilitation for adults is available at Good Shepherd’s four inpatient facilities. Here you will receive three hours of physical, speech or occupational therapy each day.
• Inpatient brain injury rehabilitation for children is available at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Unit.
• If you are more advanced in your brain injury rehabilitation program, Good Shepherd offers numerous outpatient rehabilitation facilities for adults and children to continue your progress.
• If you can't make it to one of Good Shepherd's outpatient locations, we provide in-home therapy services throughout our service area.
• Good Shepherd offers numerous wellness programs for brain injury survivors. These programs, support groups and fitness opportunities will help you maintain your health and function following a TBI.

Good Shepherd’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program specializes in evaluating and treating:

• Cognitive or linguistic impairments
• Continence issues
• Functional impairments that result from brain injury, including muscle weakness and difficulty walking, working or performing tasks of daily living
• Speech and language impairments or swallowing disorders

Neuropsychologist services:

At Good Shepherd, clinical neuropsychologists provide evaluations and treatment in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Clinical neuropsychologists are licensed psychologists with expertise in how behavior and skills relate to brain structures and systems. Neuropsychological evaluations are specialized testing procedures to help understand how the brain is working in order to help with treatment planning. The evaluations assess intellect, executive skills, attention and concentration, memory, language, visual spatial skills, and motor and sensory skills. Mood an personality are also assessed.
