Work Services: Vocational Services

Good Shepherd Work Services offers a fresh approach to vocational rehabilitation. A variety of services are offered, and clients may choose the best options for them. The goal of Good Shepherd Work Services is to help our clients with disabilities achieve their employment potential in a creative and flexible environment.
 
Clients participate in more than 18 hours of group counseling to determine their readiness for employment and to establish their personalized vocational plan. The Vocational Services program features the following services:

Educational Sessions:

  • Discuss issues relating to the employment of people with disabilities
  • Learn about Social Security benefits
  • Hone interviewing skills
  • Discuss employer and employee expectations

Plan Establishment:

  • A planning team is assigned, which consists of the client and members of his or her support community, a referral agency representative, a case manager and a member of the orientation team.
  • Goals include clarification of the client’s vision of employment success and determining a plan of action to achieve that vision.

Options for Services after Readiness Assessment Include:

  • Assessment of fundamental work skills
  • Vocational evaluation
  • Vocational exploration
  • Job skills training
  • Interactive group sessions focusing on job skills
  • Transportation training
  • Analysis of Social Security benefits
  • Job development services, including application, resume and interview skills
  • Labor market survey
  • Job search
  • Job skills coaching with short- and long-term support

Measurement of Progress:

  • A panel meets monthly to measure the client’s progress toward achieving their desired outcomes.
  • Ongoing meetings may be held to address significant changes in a client’s life and any necessary changes in vocational programming.

There are numerous funding sources available for Vocational Services.  These include the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Veterans Administration and the Lehigh and Northampton County MH/MR.
