Thank you got choosing Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Center Valley, Pa., for your inpatient rehab needs.

Here is a brief overview of what you can expect during your stay with Good Shepherd.

Private Patient Entrance

At Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, the privacy and dignity of our patients is important to us — because it’s important to you. Each patient who enters our hospital’s doors for the first time is taken to our private patient entrance, where you are greeted personally by our team and escorted up to your floor.

The private patient entrance features bright and inspiring artwork, including motivational messages that set the tone for the type of care and attention you will receive at Good Shepherd.

Typical Day

On day one, we begin evaluating your inpatient rehabilitation needs as soon as you enter our doors. Your treatment team, led by a physiatrist (doctor who specializes in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation), will design a recovery process that fits your specific needs.

During your stay, you’ll see your Good Shepherd physician a minimum of three days per week, and receive three hours of physical, occupational and/or speech therapy (depending on your needs) each day. At Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, we provide daily physician oversight and medical management/24-hour nursing care.

Nursing and occupational therapy teams help you get ready for your day, including medication, dressing and grooming. Bathroom assistance also is provided.

What to Bring

Please bring the following for your stay. Your admission liaison can provide a more detailed list, if desired, upon request:

  • Comfortable clothing for exercise (e.g., cotton T-shirts, shorts)
  • Supportive sneakers or well-fitting, skid-free shoes with backs
  • Toiletries
  • Photo ID
  • Insurance card

Therapy Gyms

Each floor contains a therapy gym with natural light and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The gyms are each outfitted with therapy and exercise equipment, as well as a collection of the latest rehabilitation technology (e.g., robotic exoskeletons, ZeroG) to provide leading-edge care.

ADL Suite

Also on each floor is an ADL (activities of daily living) suite. The space is a fully functional apartment with bed, couch, bathroom/shower, oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer and more. Your therapy team works with you and your family members to practice laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, getting in and out of bed and other activities.

Food Service

Menus of our nutritious and delicious food offerings are provided daily on the units. Special menus are available upon request. Patient meal service is provided at the following times:

  • Breakfast: 8 – 8:45 a.m.
  • Lunch: 12:15 – 1 p.m.
  • Dinner: 5:30 p.m.

Family Training and Participation

Family members and caregivers are a vital part of the Good Shepherd treatment team, too, and are encouraged to attend therapy sessions and educational classes. Our team members work closely to provide tools, discuss goals, outline plans of care and offer support during the recovery journey to home.

We provide a specially designed Discharge Readiness Class, which is for patients who are being discharged within the week, as well as their families. Our in-house experts provide an overview of the discharge process, answer questions and help direct to any appropriate resources.
