Bethlehem, Pennsylvania — Team members from Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network showed off the Trexo Plus robotic technology at a Greater Lehigh Valley Auto Dealers Association (GLVADA) press conference announcing Good Shepherd Pediatrics as the 2020 Lehigh Valley Auto Show preview gala beneficiary.
Gary Schmidt, Board of Trustees chair and interim president & CEO of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, and Amanda Kleckner, PT, DPT, administrative director of pediatrics, both spoke at the event. They, alongside Executive Director Frank Hyland, MS, PT, accepted the generous donation on behalf of Good Shepherd.
“Whether at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Unit in Bethlehem or our many outpatient locations throughout the greater Lehigh Valley, the Greater Lehigh Valley Auto Dealers Association’s generous support allows Good Shepherd Pediatrics’ team of physicians, therapists and nurses to provide expert pediatric rehabilitation and specialized care to children recovering from traumatic injuries, illnesses, neurological disorders or chronic conditions.”

At the event, Kleckner and Kandis Jones, PT, DPT, PCS, supervisor of outpatient pediatrics, demonstrated Trexo Plus. The life-changing robotic technology is being pioneered by Good Shepherd Pediatrics. It empowers children to walk, maybe for the first time in their lives. The device’s robotic legs help children walk in a safe, correct and consistent manner.
Emily Pineda, a 5-year-old from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, has been working with Trexo for several months. Emily, who has cerebral palsy, showed off the technology in front of an eager crowd. She smiled and gave a thumbs up the entire time.
“She really uses it as a vehicle to take her places wherever she wants to go, which she hasn’t had before,” says Jennifer Pineda, Emily’s mother.
