Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient rehabilitative
services to patients with functional limitations due to, but not limited to, brain injury, spinal
cord injury, stroke, amputation, fractures, joint replacement, multiple trauma, neurological
disorders and pediatric feeding disorder. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital provides 24-
hour a day rehabilitative nursing, respiratory, medical services and care management support.
Other hospital services that are available as needed include lab, radiology, medical specialists,
spiritual care and dieticians.
Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital (pediatrics-only) does not have a doctor, certified nurse
practitioner or physician assistant continuously on-site 24 hours/7 days per week. Our
nursing and respiratory therapy staff are trained to initiate emergency care, and a call to
emergency responders will be done immediately.
Services that may be recommended by physician and treatment team after evaluation (upon
admission) to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital are:
Rehabilitation will be provided a minimum of three hours per day of either occupational therapy (OT) or physical therapy (PT) and one additional therapy, usually speech therapy (ST), for five of seven days or 15 hours per week.
Your insurance plan will make a determination relative to your length of stay.
Coverage is based on the premise that you are able to fully participate in the rehabilitation program
and show significant progress. If the rehabilitation program is unable to meet your needs, the care
manager will work with you in accessing alternative resources to address any limitations.
Your care manager will be happy to answer any questions you have regarding scope of services,
insurance reimbursement of funding sources, and make appropriate referrals as needed. We
encourage you to ask questions and will attempt to address your needs.
Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network provides or contracts with the following providers for
medical care:
Internal Medicine
Provider: Lehigh Internal Medicine Associates and Penn State/St. Joseph’s Hospital Internal
Medicine
Services Provided: On-site as needed; provision of on call services 24/7.
For the Pediatric Unit: Services are provided by the hospitalist employed by the
hospital. Timeliness of response to orders: 24 hours: Monitored through Ongoing
Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) and the physician scorecard.
Capacity: No limitations
Diagnostic Imaging for Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Center Valley and the Pediatric
Unit:
Provider: Diagnostic Imaging Center at Good Shepherd and Trident Care
Services Provided: On-site: During weekday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., diagnostic imaging
services are provided by the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Good Shepherd. For Good
Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital: Services are provided by Trident after 5:00 p.m. and
weekends. For the Pediatric Unit: Depending on the type of service required, a patient may be
sent to Lehigh Valley-Muhlenberg Hospital. Most services are provided by Trident as needed.
Timeliness of response to orders and results: Two hours for response to orders; 24 hours or less
for results: Monitored through the Performance lmprovement/Outcomes Oversight Committee
(PIOOC).

Laboratory Services for Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital and the Pediatric Unit:
Provider: Health Network Laboratories
Services Provided: Phlebotomists are onsite to draw blood and process the specimens.
Results completed at Health Network Laboratories on Roble Road in Allentown, PA.
For the Pediatric Unit: Same as above
Timeliness of response to orders and results: Routine and Stat. Monitored through the
Performance lmprovement/Outcomes Oversight Committee (PIOOC).
Capacity: No limitations
Pharmacy Services for Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital and Pediatric Unit:
Provider: Cardinal Health
Services Provided: Onsite. There is courier service from the pharmacy at Good Shepherd
Rehabilitation Hospital in Center Valley and to the Pediatric Unit.
Timeliness of response to orders: 15-60 minutes: Monitored through the Pharmacy & Therapeutics
Committee, as well as reporting through Patient Safety Committee.
Capacity: No limitations
